The Basic Licence is the standard licence required to compete in all open-cockpit circuit powerboat racing classes under the CPA. It is the licence most competitors begin with, covering junior classes such as GT15 and GT30 through to adult categories like OSY400.

This licence confirms that a racer has completed the necessary safety and race training, meets the CPA’s eligibility requirements, and is competent to take part in competitive events. It is suitable for both new drivers entering the sport for the first time and returning racers renewing their eligibility after time away.

Holding a Basic Licence allows competitors to race at club, regional and national level, and serves as the foundation for progressing toward advanced qualifications, including capsule and international licences.
