The passing of Cliff Watts

Club founder and President, Cliff Watts, passed away on 15 Feb 2026 at age 102 . His 50 years of quiet dedication will be deeply missed.

It is with great sadness that Stewartby Water Sports Club shares the news that one of our founding members and our Club President, Clifford Bertie Watts, passed away on the 15th of February at the remarkable age of 102.

Since the club's inception in 1971, Cliff was a cornerstone of our community. As one of the original seven water sports enthusiasts who stepped forward to form the powerboat racing committee, he served as the section's very first Vice Commodore. For over five decades, he was a long-term supporter of powerboat racing and the wider club, dedicating his free time to serving the members' interests in any way that he could.

His broad impact spanned the entire water sports community at Stewartby. Serving as Club President from 2017, his modest, quiet dedication and strong work ethic helped shape the club into what it is today. His contributions will be fondly remembered by all sections, including the sailing fleet, who will be honouring his memory when they compete for the Watts Cup later this year.

We can never fully repay Cliff for the amazing support that he dedicated personally to the club over so many years. He will be greatly missed but forever remembered in our hearts. Our sincere condolences go out to his daughter, Josie, and all of his family and friends at this very sad time.

If you would like to read more about the lasting legacy he left for us, there is a tribute to him on the club website here - Remembering our Club President Cliff Watts
