Thank You to Outgoing Chairman, Ian Parish

SWSC announces that Ian Parish is stepping down as Club Chairman. We thank him for his incredible contributions and welcome Steve Portch as Acting Chairman.

We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to Ian Parish, who is stepping down from his role as Club Chairman due to personal commitments. We owe Ian a huge thank you for the immense dedication, leadership, and hard work he has given to SWSC over the years.

Ian has achieved a great deal during his tenure. He successfully led the 2020 clubhouse refurbishment, securing a vital grant from the Mayor’s Climate Change Fund to upgrade our windows and insulation. This initiative not only provided us with the warm clubhouse we enjoy today but also saves the club approximately £3,000 annually in energy costs. Furthermore, Ian was instrumental in securing the grants for the new changing room facilities that are currently under construction.

He also championed member safety by acting on the independent RLSS risk assessment, and was chair when the tough decision to separate powerboat racing from other water activities was made.

Beyond his management and administrative contributions, Ian is, as we all know, an exceptional sailor. He has proudly claimed the title of SWSC Club Champion three times - in 2015, 2019, and 2024.

We are also pleased to share that Steve Portch will be stepping up as Acting Chairman to ensure smooth operations until our next AGM. A big thank you to Steve for taking on this vital role.

Thank you for everything, Ian! Your impact on the club will be felt for years to come, and we look forward to continuing to see you out on the water.
