Phase 1 of Changing Room Improvement Project Completed

Phase 1 has reduced our carbon footprint with major energy-saving upgrades, paving the way for inclusive facilities in Phase 2.

Stewartby Water Sports Club is delighted to announce the successful completion of Phase 1 of our changing room improvement project, made possible thanks to the generous support of the Rookery South Trust adminsitered by administered by GrantScape.

This project forms part of a wider vision to improve our clubhouse facilities for current members, future generations and the wider community. While Phase 1 has focused on sustainability and reducing the Club's environmental impact, it also provides the foundations for future improvements that will enhance accessibility, safeguarding and inclusion.

A More Sustainable Future

Stewartby Water Sports Club would like to thank the Rookery South Trust for its support towards the refurbishment and improvement of the club changing facilities.

Phase 1 has now been successfully completed and has delivered its intended objectives of improving the quality, safety, energy efficiency, accessibility and long-term sustainability of the changing room facilities used by club members, visiting groups and the wider community.

The completed works have transformed ageing changing facilities into modern, clean, durable and energy-efficient spaces that better meet the needs of current and future users.

What Was Included in Phase 1?

The project was originally developed with several key objectives:

  • Improve the condition and appearance of the changing rooms.
  • Increase energy efficiency through improved insulation and upgraded finishes.
  • Reduce heat loss and operating costs.
  • Improve safeguarding and suitability for family use.
  • Enhance the experience for members and visitors.
  • Provide facilities better suited to community use and open days.
  • Create a more sustainable facility with a lower environmental impact.

To achieve these objectives, Phase 1 included:

  • Removal and preparation of existing wall finishes.
  • Installation of insulation improvements where required.
  • Installation of White Rock hygienic PVC wall cladding throughout the changing facilities.
  • Ceiling upgrades with improved thermal performance.
  • Replacement of existing lighting with modern, energy-efficient LED lighting.
  • Electrical upgrades to support the refurbished facilities.
  • Improvements to insulation and airtightness, significantly reducing heat loss and lowering the energy required to keep the facilities comfortable.

These improvements not only modernise the changing rooms but also reduce the Club's carbon footprint, lower ongoing operating costs and create facilities that are easier and more economical to maintain.

Looking Ahead to Phase 2

While Phase 1 has focused primarily on environmental improvements and sustainability, it is only the first step in our long-term plans.

Our vision for Phase 2 is to further improve the experience for everyone who visits Stewartby Water Sports Club by creating more inclusive and accessible facilities. This includes improved family changing areas, enhanced safeguarding through better-designed changing spaces, and the provision of public toilets that can be accessed without entering the changing rooms.

Together, these improvements will ensure the Club continues to provide welcoming, modern facilities that support a wide range of activities for members, visiting groups and the wider community.

Thank You

We would like to thank the Rookery South Fund and GrantScape for supporting this significant improvement project that will benefit members, visitors and the wider community for many years to come.

The completed Phase 1 refurbishment has delivered modern, energy-efficient, durable and attractive changing facilities while supporting the Club's commitment to sustainability, accessibility and community engagement.
