Inspiring Day of Learning at the Stewartby Women on Water Instructor Event

Stewartby Sailing Section was delighted to host a dynamic RYA Instructor Development Day dedicated to supporting leaders of Women on Water groups.

Stewartby Sailing Section was delighted to host a dynamic RYA Instructor Development Day dedicated to supporting leaders of Women on Water groups. The event brought together 16 enthusiastic attendees who travelled from across the region - including as far as Suffolk and Dorset - to take part.

The day began with an insightful theory session led by the RYA’s Eastern Region Women on Water Champions: Jane Ellison, Nessa Weedon‑Jones, and Jess Day. Through open discussion and collaborative brainstorming, participants explored coaching approaches, shared challenges, and outlined personal goals for the day.

Once the sun broke through and the wind finally joined us, the group took to the water in RS Visions and Picos. The practical sessions were not only instructional but also great fun, offering hands‑on opportunities to experience effective coaching techniques and try out engaging exercises that can be taken back to clubs and Women on Water sessions.

A huge thank‑you goes to Jane, Nessa, and Jess for delivering such an inspiring and empowering programme. Their enthusiasm set the tone for a day filled with learning, connection, and confidence‑building.

Events like this don’t happen without a strong community behind them. Special appreciation goes to our brilliant boat bosuns, who ensured every vessel was ready to go. Ian RE, Andy B, and Mark P worked tirelessly preparing rigs and launching rescue boats, while Susan A expertly managed gate access for arrivals and departures. Your support made the event run seamlessly.

We’ll leave you with a link to the afternoon’s highlight: a wonderfully entertaining display of synchronised RS Vision sailing - a perfect end to a productive and joyful day on the water.
