Happy New Year to all our members! After a jam-packed 2023, we've got an exciting 2024 ahead! Our annual calendar is now live on our website (Stewartby Water Sports Club : SWSC Calendar) so make sure not to miss any important events during the upcoming year. We can all look forward to:

  • Continuing with SWSC hosting open events, including class associations as well as our sea scouts, cadets, and MKBYSA groups.
  • Through March we are introducing a new series of "Warm-Up Wednesday" evening sessions to gear up for the Spring and Summer sailing seasons. More details released on this in due course.
  • Sailing school training dates confirmed and ready to be filled - we'll be reaching out to you to understand the training aspirations of our membership so we can cater for you all as much as possible.
  • Social Sailing Saturday continues, we will be providing additional support on these days to help more people take advantage of them, and we have looked to align them with our camping weekends.
  • Our popular public taster sessions continue for non-members.
  • Discover Sailing - our annual open day - on the 4th May.
  • Lots of social weekends across the year with camping, including our Summer Family Weekend! Note that this year you will need to login to the portal on www.swsc.org.uk to see the camping weekends on the calendar.
  • The pre-Wednesday evening race training continues due to popular demand, perfect for those who might be new(er) to racing.
  • Our Squids & Sharks youth programme returns on Friday evenings from April to September.
  • Not forgetting, all our usual racing on Sundays, Wednesdays, short course and pursuit events, Championship races, Welwyn Garden City race, and our moonlight sail. And given the popularity of the one-off double-hander race last year, we'll be introducing more double-hander races into our specialist racing events!
  • And last but not least, we of course have our Laying Up Supper and Christmas Lunch in the off-season, which were again fantastically popular this year. We are always on the lookout for volunteers to help run the galley, so if you are interested, please email info@stewartbywatersportsclub.co.uk.

Your committee are working hard behind the scenes and as such there is one date in particular coming up to put in your diary:

  • 25th February - working party and AGM. Our first working party of the year will replace our icicle series racing and sets us up for our year ahead. This is followed by our Annual General Meeting (AGM). This is your chance to have your say and vote on the forward direction of the sailing section. We are finalising the last few details for this and formal notice with all information you need will be sent in the next couple of weeks.

That's all from us - we're looking forward to seeing you all sailing soon!

Kind regards,

Your Sailing Committee
