MK & Bucks Youth Sailing

1783743 orig

Take part in the local youth sailing circuit.

Stewartby Water Sports Club is proud to be part of the Milton Keynes & Bucks Youth Sailing Association (MKBYSA), which brings together five local sailing clubs to offer young sailors (aged 10 to 18) the chance to race, train, and make lasting friendships across our region.

Whats It All About?

  • Monthly events at different lakes from February to November, combining racing and sometimes training, all in a friendly, encouraging atmosphere.
  • Open to all 10 to 18 year olds (typically RYA Stage 2+), whether youre keen to get into racing or just want to meet and sail with others your age.
  • The series leads up to end-of-year awards and a chance to qualify for the National Schools Sailing Association (NSSA) National Regatta each July, a week-long, camping-and-sailing event with hundreds of young sailors from all over the UK.

How Does It Work?

  • Each meet stands alone, but the series leads up to a friendly end-of-year prize giving (including best newcomer, top three in fast and slow fleets, and more).
  • Most events are low-pressure, with the emphasis on participation and fun, not just winning.
  • The November trials decide which local sailors go on to represent the region at the NSSA National Regatta the following summer.

What To Expect

  • Ages: 10 to 18 (usually RYA Stage 2+)
  • Entry fee: £7.50 per event (bring a packed lunch, tea & coffee usually available)
  • Boat hire: Need to borrow a boat at Stewartby? Email Colin in advance.

Why Take Part?

  • Make friends and gain experience racing at different lakes.
  • Supportive coaching and safety cover at every event.
  • Build confidence and aim for a spot at the amazing NSSA National Regatta.
  • Many participants go on to be instructors, race officials, or active volunteers in sailing.

For Parents

  • Sessions run by RYA-qualified coaches, with full safety boat cover and DBS-checked instructors and helpers.
  • Parents can stay and watch or sign a form to leave their child in the care of the organisers.
