Racing Changes #3: New Starting Sequence & Two Fleet Starts.

This is the big one. From April 1st, we will be having a two-fleet starting sequence and will stop using the 5-4-1-0 timing and return to a 6, 3, 0, +3 sequence.

Over the last two years we have experimented with setting the monohull handicap fleet and Sprint 15 sailors off separately. This has solved a number of problems at the start but has been a little unsatisfactory at the same time.

We’ve looked at a number of clubs that operate multi-start racing and the 6, 3, 0 sequence is the most popular and will be familiar to long-standing members who can remember how we raced before 2005. We intend for the new starting sequence to run whenever catamarans have signed-on for racing on weekends and Wednesday evenings. A simple guide has been produced for race officers and there will be posters explaining the changes at the club this weekend.
