2012 Spring Open Handicap

The 2012 summer racing season kicks off with the Spring Open Handicap. The event is open to any mono-hulled dinghy and catamarans under 18″ in length and is run to the Portsmouth Yardstick scheme. Race times are 11.15, 13.30 and 15.30 with a competitor briefing at 10.30am on the Clubhouse patio. Entry for all club members is free, with visiting boats paying £ 10 per boat.

This year will see the the introduction of 2 starts. Catamarans (Start 1 – Numeral Pennant 6) and Handicap Fleet (Start 2 ) please read the full post for details of the start sequence. Prizes will be awarded in the following handicap divisions: Catamarans, Fast Handicap (monohuls up to 1100) and Slow Handicap (monohuls 1101+)

Start Sequence

The race officer is ready and raises the orange flag with two black stripes on the committee boat.

- 6:00 – Catamaran Fleet Warning Signal

- 3:00 – Handicap Fleet Warning Signal & Catamaran Fleet Preparatory Signal

+ 0:00 – Catamaran Fleet Start & Handicap Fleet Preparatory Signal

+ 3:00 – Handicap Fleet Start

In the event of a general recall, the recalled fleet will re-start (6, 3, 0) after the sequence above is completed. If both starts are recalled, the above sequence will be repeated.

Competitors with Optimum Time watches should select 3m intervals. If setting your watches at the first signal sounded (Catamaran Warning Signal) the catamaran fleet should select 6 minutes and the handicap fleet 9 minutes on their watches.
