2010 SWSC Virtual Skipper Regatta

The first of this year’s ‘Winter Wednesdays’ took place on the 17th November with the return of the Virtual Skipper Regatta. The competition would begin in earnest after Dinner with newcomers taking an early opportuity to get some practice in. Four heats later and a final, Tim Robins was crowned Virtual Skipper Champion for 2010.

Winter Wednesdays - Update

We thought that we would give you an update on the upcomming Winter Wednesday social evenings. You may remember that last year’s monthly Wednesday evening socials were very popular

The 17th November has an Evening of Virtual Skipper Sailing and will start at 7pm, with dinner served during a break in the evening.

December 15th will be a presentation evening for a potential flotilla sailing trip for club members next year. See separate announcement.

Remember, the Galley will be serving dinner and the bar will be open for drinks. Read on for the other dates.

Moonlight Sail Results

The evening of Saturday 11th September saw the return of the ever popular Moonlight Race. In case you didn’t know, this is a chance to race in the dark in decorated boats with silly costumes on. This year was one of the best for ages.

Recreational Sailing Starts on Saturday 1st May

Summer has finally arrived! Recreational Sailing starts this coming Saturday and continues every Saturday until the middle of October. Each session starts at 12.30 and ends at 16.30 with support boat cover provided throughout. Bring the family, bring a picnic or barbecue and kick-back and relax at the club.

Christmas Dinner 2009

Virtual Skipper Regatta Results

The evening of Wednesday 9th December saw the inaugural Virtual Skipper regatta. With 24 entrants, competition was fierce and very competitive. Each heat comprised a single race around a windward-leeward course over two laps. The virtual boats were Melanges 24 keelboats equiped with a virtual spinnaker.  With Sarah providing a cracking dinner for everyone, the evening came to a close 2 hours later when Jerry Howcroft was declared winner having qualified in his heat and semi-final.

Sailing Simulator Social Evening - Wed. 2nd November 2009

The winter series of Wednesday evening social evenings continued with an evening of fun and games in a Sailing Simulator. With Sarah providing the evening meal the twenty-one members had a go at posting a fast lap time on the virtual trapezoid course.

After three long hours, a time of 1m 59s was posted by Steve Ivory on his second attempt and he took home the bottle of Champaign. The full results are available in the 2009 results page.

The next evening will take place on Wednesday 9th December with an ‘online’ Virtual Skipper tournament.
