The sailing section AGM will be held in the Clubhouse on Sunday 26th February 2012 at 3pm and follows the January working party earlier in the day.

Any nominations for election to the committee should be made in writing to the section Secretary, and include the name and signatures of the proposer and seconder to arrive no later than February 12th 2012.

Any proposals for the ATM should be made in writing to the sailing section Secretary, and include the name and signatures of the proposer and seconder, again, no later than the 12th February 2012.

Vacancy: Duty Manager for 2012 Season

The committee are currently looking for a volunteer member to manage the section duty list during 2012. The responsibilities include maintaining the duty list, updating the online version and notifying members of their upcoming duty. The role includes acting as a point of contact for members with issues or questions relating to the duty. You will need to fairly familiar with Spreadsheets and email and you can expect to spend approximately 1 hours per week preparing letters, emails and making updates to the list.

Over the next 3 months the club will be asking members to complete and return duty request forms and during this time the current duty manager (Karl Pountney) will assist new duty manager put the new duty list together and make preparations for the new season. After which, the duty manager will report to the committee and will liaise frequently with the Racing Coordinator with regards to events and the membership secretary to ensure new members are allocated duties promptly. As Duty Manager you won’t be required to join the section committee.

Five Year Development Plan Consultation

SWSC Management Committee have published a draft five year development plan to give focus to the future development of the Club, this is a consultation document which can be read here, anyone wishing to have input into the consultation process should register their interest with the section committee.

Changes to Email Newsfeed Service

The email newsfeed service on the club website will be changing very shortly. The service, which has been available to members since the site was redesigned in 2009, will be migrating to a new environment which is more flexible and offers a couple of new features which will enable the club to keep in touch with you more reliably. Subscribers of the current service will be automatically migrated across but while we move you to the new service you may receive emails from the old and new service for a short while.

2011 Duty List & Handbooks

The 2011 duty list and club handbooks have been mailed to all members who have renewed so far this year. Please check the duty list carefully and make a note of your date. Duty reminders will be sent out before your duty date, however if you have a problem with the date allocated now you need to take action immediately so we can attempt to find a more suitable date.

Please Check Your Boat is Properly Tied Down

It is important during the winter months that boats left in the Dinghy Park are properly tied down to prevent damage to the boat and other member’s boats nearby.

We’ve had strong winds over the last two or three days and sadly a number of boats have come off their trolleys and had to be attended to. We strongly advise that members check their boats as soon as possible.

Boat’s must be tied down with rope of at least mainsheet thickness or a strap. If you’re boat has it’s mast up you should take a couple of turns around the mast. Please also remember that all boats in the Dinghy Park must have valid insurance; this requirement is a fundamental rule of the club.

Membership Fees for 2011

We have updated the membership fees section of the website with the new rates for 2011. There has been a small increase which adds £4.03 for a family, £3.62 for an individual member, students in full-time study £1.23 and 87p for a Junior. There has been no increase in the boat park space fee of £25 and the joining fee for new members for 2011 is £36. Read on for a table of fees.

Membership Renewal Letters

The membership renewal letters for 2011/12 will shortly be sent out to all club members. Please can you check the renewal form carefully to ensure all the information is correct and make any alterations necessary on the form prior to returning it? Renewals will need to be marked for the attention of Jane Pilkington, Membership Secretary, 10 Lower Shelton Road, Marston Mortaine and should be with Jane by the 14th March 2011. Thank-you.

Fireworks – Saturday 6th November, from 7pm

Like previous year’s the club is putting on a Firework display and bonfire eventing on Saturday 6th November. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm with the fireworks shortly afterwards. The event is free to members and accompanied guests.
