How to Place a Classified Advertisement

One of the most exciting new features of the new website is a classified ads page where you can advertise items that you have for sale. We know how popular the Sale/Wanted board is in the club house and now you can reach all members via the website.

Adverts are free to members and only members will be advertising items on the website. Recent items will appear on the homepage where you will also find a link to place your advert. Read-on for a short overview and step-by-step guide.

Overview

Placing an advert is simple and the following process will be followed for each advert placed.

  1. You place the advert, include any pictures and the price, of course.
  2. The advert goes into a pending state awaiting confirmation by the website administrator
  3. The advert is checked. We make sure the correct category is included, a contact email/telephone number and item price.
  4. The advert is published and available on the site for 60 days.

Step By Step

  1. To place an advert click on the link on the left hand side of the homepage or select “Classified Ads” from the menu and the “Place an Advertisment”
  2. Place a eye-catching short description in the “Title” box.
  3. Select the category. You can choose Boats, Equipment, Clothing, General and Wanted. Soon you will be able to choose Crew Wanted and Crew Available.
  4. You must include your name. The administrator will check the name against the membership list. Unfortunately, if there is no match then your ad will not be accepted. In family memberships it is a good idea to use the main contact name for the membership.
  5. You must include a contact email address or telephone number for your prospective buyer to contact you.
  6. Use the City to indicate where you are or where the item can be collected from.
  7. Include a price. Please just enter the number. Do not include any Pound sign or ‘ono’, ‘ovno’ or ‘bnwt’ labels here.
  8. Include a description and repeat the price you want for the item.
  9. There is a little sum at the bottom of the page for you to calculate and enter the result in the box. This is a security measure to prevent spam adverts.
  10. Job done. Sit back and wait for the buyer to contact you.

We ask for you to enter the price twice in the advert due to a small bug that was identified in the site testing. It allows the administrator to quickly amend the advert if the bug affects your ad. We will contact you in the event of a problem before the advert appears on the site.
